How to Check if a Website Has Been Indexed by Google

July 30th, 2023

Is your website getting the visibility it deserves on Google? Understanding whether or not your site has been indexed by Google is critical for achieving successful search engine optimization (SEO). The process of indexation allows Google’s search engine bots, known as ‘crawlers’ or ‘spiders’, to discover your website, review its contents, and list it within their search results. If your site isn’t indexed, you’re essentially invisible online. But don’t worry, checking your website’s indexing status is simple and straightforward. In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to check if a website has been indexed by Google.

Step 1: Using Google Search

  1. Google Site Search: The easiest way to check if your website is indexed is to perform a site search on Google. In the Google search bar, type “site:” followed by your domain name. For example, if your website’s URL is www.example.com, you would type “site:www.example.com” into Google’s search bar and press Enter.
  2. Interpreting the Results: The results page will show all the pages from your website that Google has indexed. If your website appears in the search results, it means Google has successfully indexed some or all of your site’s pages. If no results show up, it indicates that your website is not indexed.

Step 2: Using Google Search Console

  1. Create an Account: Google Search Console (GSC) is a free tool from Google that provides insights into how Google views your website. If you haven’t already, you’ll need to create an account and verify your website ownership.
  2. Check Index Status: Once your account is set up and your site is verified, go to the ‘Coverage’ report under the ‘Index’ section on the left-hand menu. Here, you can see how many of your website’s pages are indexed.
  3. URL Inspection: You can also use the ‘URL Inspection’ tool in GSC to check the indexing status of individual pages. Enter the URL you want to check into the search bar at the top of the page, and GSC will provide detailed information on its indexing status.

What to Do if Your Website Is Not Indexed

If you’ve found that your website is not indexed, there are a few steps you can take:

  1. Submit a Sitemap: A sitemap is a file where you provide information about the pages, videos, and other files on your site, and the relationships between them. You can submit your sitemap to Google via GSC.
  2. Fetch as Google: In GSC, use the ‘URL Inspection’ tool to ‘Request Indexing’ for your website or specific pages.
  3. Check for Crawl Errors: Also in GSC, check the ‘Coverage’ report for any crawl errors that might be preventing Google from accessing and indexing your site.
  4. Review Your Robots.txt File: This file tells search engine bots which parts of your site they can or cannot access. Make sure you’re not unintentionally blocking Google from indexing your site.

Conclusion

Ensuring your website is indexed by Google is fundamental to improving your SEO and increasing your site’s visibility. With the simple steps outlined in this guide, you can easily check your website’s index status and take proactive measures if it’s not yet indexed. Remember, SEO is a continual process that involves constant monitoring and tweaking. So keep a close eye on your indexing status and watch your site’s visibility soar.

Remember, SEO is a marathon, not a sprint. It might take some time for Google to index your website, especially if it’s new. Don’t lose hope and keep creating valuable content, and before long, you’ll see your website in the Google search results.

And Even More Free Back Links

March 15th, 2012

Hi,

Update 13/03/12

This new back link page is the third in the series and replaces the two other pages (the other pages will remain live). I’ve had to create a new page again as the previous one got broken again by too many comments. I’ll work on a proper fix in the future but right now this is the simplest solution.

The original Free Back Links post received lots of attention and over 500 people left quality comments and received the back links as promised, but the page some how got messed up and it stopped allowing comments. So this page is the new replacement page and provides the same great service.

I’d like to link to your site.

I’ve seen some other sites doing this and I thought it was a really good idea. So I thought why not provide the same feature for my readers.

How to Get the Free Back Link:

1) In the comments area below simply add your website link (url) with a short description of the site using NO more than 200 characters.
2) Make sure you put the phrase “link me up” in your comment so I can make sure it doesn’t get caught by the spam filter.
3) Only one comment/link per website.
4) No porn, adult site links please.

The Catch?

There is no catch. Honest!

How it works

After posting a comment it will be held for moderation before it is shown on our site. I’ll try to get all comments approved within a few hours of posting.

Firstly a special thank you goes out to Dana_W of the warrior forum who created and updated the original list.

Press release sites can be used to promote just about anything but these sites work best when you have something really good to shout about perhaps your new website, product or service?

Just visit each site and enter your details, try to provide as much information as possible because we all know how much Google loves content but it also allows people to get their first insight into your website. » Read more: Big List Of Free Press Release Sites

Free Software Creates 150+ Website Backlinks

March 23rd, 2010

Hi again,

I wrote about this FREE software I’ve been using for a while now, but I did not give it the attention that is deserves.

The software is called Fast Directory Submitter and it allows you to submit your website to a whole bunch of websites quickly and easily.

It takes about 5 minutes to setup a campaign that includes all of your website details such as name, url, description & appropriate category for your website.

Next you can see a list of all the directorys that you can submit to, you can sort by PR (Page Rank), Name, Type e.t.c but I personally just like to submit to all of the directorys and I would recommend that you submit to all of the directorys also.

After selecting all of the directory that you want to submit to you click express submit and the process begins, some of the websites will require you to confirm a Capcha code but with the design of Free Directory Submitter its a breeze, you just read the code that pops up and retype it on your keyboard and hit enter. Next, Enter, Next, Enter and so on.

Once the directory submission has completed you can see a report that shows all of the successful submission and also a few failed ones which you can then go back and resubmit if required.

After a week or so you can open up the Fast Directory Submitter software and check to see which directory have accepted your submission and have your website url active on their websites.

Wow! Yes this software really is that good. I use it personally on all of my websites now.

The only thing I did not mention is the ability to upgrade this software, What do I mean upgrade?

Is this some cut down rubbish software? No

Does it only work for a few days? No

Is it loaded with Spyware? No

Popups/ Banners? No

No, No, No… It’ s honestly top quality software.

The upgrade is 100% optional and simply allows you to add more directorys to the submission list, I think the current amount is 3000+ directorys. The upgrade is very cheap considering the amount of backlinks it can produce.

Imagine submitting your site to 3000 directories, I’m sure you would see results.

I recommend you try Fast Directory Submitter and see what results you get, and then perhaps upgrade later.
